This book is PURE GOLD!!! I have done a lot of research on anti candida diets and, in my opinion, Ricki Heller is hands down the top anti candida recipe developer. I initially found her blog back in the day when I had to go through my first strict anti candida diet plus some other restrictions (eggs and diary) that my immunologist advised at the time. Finding vegan anti candida tasty recipes is always challenging and her blog and books have been a life saver. Dealing now with the aftermath of long time undetected Lyme disease I have to be very savvy with the amount of sugars I let into my system so that I don't feed bacteria and can function. The devotions are short and easy to follow. They are written as though Holy Spirit is speaking directly to you because these are thoughts that the author has felt spoken to her personally by Holy Spirit that she is sharing with us, and they are scripturally sound. She also shares relevant verses and a prayer starter for each day. I ordered the Kindle version, but decided to get the hardback version as well so that my wife and I could use it together, plus I am back to using my printed Bible during my quiet times instead of my Bible app, so having the little hardback book handy is just a personal preference. God is already using this devotional to speak into my life and I've only been using it a couple of weeks. I definitely recommend it.

Not your conventional "self-help" book.....
I can't stand so-called "self-help" books, especially the ones that pretend to have a magic formula for happiness, success, money, true love, or what have you. Normally I wouldn't go near one that had a title like this--was the author trying to tell us how to live "virtuously" and find the right path to "search for meaning"? But a review in the Wall Street Journal intrigued me, so I read it. And I was hooked.

For this is not a flashy fraud like, say, "The Secret". As the subtitle indicates, it is a "meditation". The book consists of several dozen very short essays on virtues and vices, using the lists provided Benjamin Franklin and Pope Gregory respectively as starting points. It is a beautifully written collection expressing her thoughts on them based on her life experiences and observations of people, mostly in the American West, where she was born and raised. This is quite a fun book about a tough, strong "tracker" with goals to obtain a coveted promotion and to get a man who attempted to kill her father. It's really quite an enjoyable, easy read about a unique culture ("trolls," though they're mostly attractive, there are several distinct types, and most can pass for human). NOTE: this doesn't end on a cliffhanger, but nothing is resolved either--it leaves you at a point where the plot has thickened, and people are heading back home to regroup. So if you're the kind of person who likes a more resolved ending, you may want to wait until the sequel is out before buying this one.

this series is starting to drag on.

When I started the House of Night books around four years ago, I loved it. Zoe was a strong lead that I could connect with. Sadly as the books have carried on she has become a whiney, annoying Mary Sue who is more interested in how many boys she can sleep with or flirt with or obsess over than standing up for what she believes in. Then there is the fact that perrhaps if she spent less time acting like a complete whore, and more time paying attention to her surroundings she wouldn't continually be blind sided by the 'big bad'. The fact that each of the eleven books only covers between a day to a week in Zoe's world is also becoming tiresome, I'm finding it hard to continue to be interested in this world because it is moving too slowly and not covering enough ground. I will finish the series out, because that is what I do, however I won't buy anymore of the books until they are all published.

As a fan of Karina's from Dancing With The Stars, I was fascinated to hear that she and her manager/BFF/look-a-like were collaborating on a book. It was a fun and enjoyable read full of stories that were hilarious and would make you say, "WTF?!?!" out loud. I love how the book infuses anecdotes along with some of their male friends' responses and perspectives to the dating disasters they share. I felt transported into their world as if I was sharing stories with some of my girlfriends. Overall, I would highly recommend this book. These are successful women who have struggled like we all have but have come out feeling empowered and emphasizing that women should not settle and value their worth. Love, lies and bad parenting...with a realistic resolution
I have already read several of this author's biker books...Dante's Nine and the Depraved Club series...so I was curious to see what she would do with the topic of a family drama involving a romance between step siblings. It was surprisingly pretty good, considering there are so many books of this type out right now, and I was pleased with the storyline. It was not all just taboo, erotica between a girl and her step-brother (they knew each other before their parents got married) but more a steamy, sad and emotional little drama about a son who can do no good in the eyes of his over-bearing father, a daughter who feels neglected and forced to take on the role of caretaker to her own mother and a web of lies and deceit that have kept a mother and son apart for many years.
There are friends who play roles in the lives of these two star-crossed lovers and they provide some added fluff to the story, and while some of the actions were predictable and completely expected, I still enjoyed...

I read this on my Kindle, and my 14 pages of highlights and notes are testament to the fact that I found it highly interesting and helpful in my understanding of how to have a personal relationship with a living God. The bottom line idea that Tozer wishes to portray is that we must use the analogy of any personal relationship we wish to cultivate. "We have almost forgotten that God is a Person and, as such, can be cultivated as any person can." If we want to have a better relationship with a person, we don't go out and read about it (the irony of this statement in a book review does not escape me)...or go to lectures about it...we spend time with that person and try to find out what makes them tick. The entire book is exploring the challenges of doing this with a higher power we can't see.

He does not shirk the challenges of this or the inevitability of doubts, fears, and digressions. This, to me, made the book more authentic. "Whoever will listen will hear the speaking of...

I felt the story had many good points as Sister Bear wants to know why someone is “different” than the rest of her friends. This opens up a learning opportunity for her as well as parents to share with their children. I think this is a good topic to discuss and I think the help of the Berenstain Bears is a good idea.

That said, I felt the story read a little awkwardly at times. At one point, I felt the story was setting up well with a question and I was getting involved in it and then it jumped to “It just so happened…” and this broke the flow I was starting to get into. I thought it would have been better if it kept me in the story like it was happening now or used some different wording.

First of all I would give this book ten stars if I could. Secondly it was so good and so engrossing and exciting I read it in a day and a half.
Brigid Quinn is a retired FBI agent. She is 59 years old and married to Carlo DiForenza a former Catholic Priest turned a philosophy professor. The two live happily in Tucson, Arizona with their two pugs.
Brigid is notified that her sister-in-law Marylin Quinn had passed away. Marylin had requested before her death that Brigid and her husband would take in her daughter Gemma-Kate for a few months so that she could qualify in in-state tuition at the University of Arizona. Shortly after Gemma-Kate arrives one of the pugs eats part of a poisonous toad and nearly dies. Brigid soon wonders if she made a mistake taking in GK. Then soon too Brigid is feeling sick, having hallucinations and odd weaknesses in her hands. Is it possible Gemma-Kate is behind this?

A quick note: I'm writing this review from the perspective of a Stephen Hunter fan and someone who has read all the books in the Bob Lee Swagger series.

For readers already familiar with Bob Lee Swagger's violent gun world I'd rate this book on par with I, SNIPER or THE THIRD BULLET, far better than NIGHT OF THUNDER or THE 47th SAMURAI, but not as good as the old classics POINT OF IMPACT or TIME TO HUNT.

In other words, among Hunter's recent books it's a very good read. If you've never read a Bob Lee Swagger book that's okay - there's no need for having done so in order to enjoy this book.

About the plot: Swagger is bored and grumpy, as usual, prompting his wife to suggest he needs to "find a new war" to fight. Pastor Herbert does not gloss over the pain and troubles of his past, but he doesn't wallow there either. Rather, he points the reader to the source of his hope: God. I have a pre-k child that is just in LOVE with Sheriff Callie. This is one of the few things out that is branded Sheriff Callie. I bought it hoping to satisfy her love. Toby the Cowsitter is a story about how Toby really wanted one of Ella's new milkshakes but he didn't have a nickle. So he promised to watch farmer Stinky's cow for a nickel. Farmer Stinky gave him specific instructions on how to care for the cow. But Toby didn't really listen. He just wanted that nickel so he could buy the milk shake. And as soon as Farmer Stinky left that is exactly what he did! Then he did the same thing with a few more farmers and before he knew the town was overrun with out of control cows! Sheriff Callie and Deputy Peck ranged all the cows and returned the town to order. Toby learned a lesson. The book is cute. It follows the animated series to a T. My daughter liked it. And the illustrations are wonderful.

I love books by Max Lucado, especially books for children. The Lucado Treasury of Bedtime Prayers that Max and his wife Denalyn put together for children is one of the best children's prayer books on the market today. Being a mom who strives each day to instill God and His love into my children as well as helping them to be thankful rather than taking things for granted this is a fantastic book for my own little collection for my kids. The book itself is hardcover, which I love because it makes it really durable for little ones; the illustrations by Lisa Alderson are amazing, such fantastic detail; The pages in the book are glossy and have such pretty pictures and an easy to read font.

I grew up listening to my father recount stories of life as a crew member in the 303rd, so when this book was announced I preordered it right away. I have not been dissapointed. The author writes in a style that is part history book and part story book, drawing you into the action, and painting a picture of combat in the air over Europe unlike anything I have read before. I particularly enjoyed how Stout wrote of the prewar years in America, and what life was like for potential young recruits who later would engage in the bloodiest air campaign ever waged. The book reinforced my father’s stories of training at Jefferson Barracks, of life at the base in Molesworth, and the terror of battle in the sky over places such as Schweinfurt and Oberschleben. It is hard to imagine what it must have been like embarking on 8 hour missions over enemy territory, fully knowing that only by the grace of God will you return to fight another day.
